An abundance has been talked in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. However does the internet variation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it not compare to its land based relative?
Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over Britain.
No more will players be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored places where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t given up on this age old game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realise that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on on the web can never replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a number of bingo players with no choice.
