An abundance has been talked in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the industry afloat. But can the net variation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or will it not compare to its real life kin?
Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent increase in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the smoking ban throughout United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this age old game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on online is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
