An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the web version of this traditional game provide a escape, or will it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?
Bingo is an enduring game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the smoking ban around United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored locations where players like to smoke.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the internet could never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
