An abundance has been written in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt because of the cigarette ban in the UK. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the web variation of this traditional game present a escape, or will it never compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent return in appeal with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban across Britain.
No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common areas where people enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
