Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for many years. Guests from each of the neighboring states get in passenger cars and travel to Oklahoma to wager on Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that instance, twenty three of the thirty nine Amerindian tribes located in Oklahoma have opened gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Indian band to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today run ten casinos of their very own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling halls were built on. digital games like one armed bandits were not allowed, due to the fact that they are believed to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma law has altered to allow for gigantic Native gaming casinos. You will now discover American Indian gambling halls with slot machine games, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Native gambling halls as of yet, but that is only a matter of time. Nobody can say what having other casino games in the bingo houses will do for the appeal of bingo.
