A lot has been reported in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the online variation of this quintessential game provide a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo is an ancient game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlors in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to change with the introduction of the cigarette ban across Britain.
No longer will players be permitted to smoke while marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. People know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and still enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the net could never replace the communal portion of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little option.
