An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the online adaptation of this classic game present a escape, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the discos on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the smoking ban across Britain.

No more will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not forgotten this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left a good many bingo players with no option.
