An abundance has been stated in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hit because of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the industry afloat. But can the online variation of this quintessential game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo is an age old game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored locations where people like to smoke.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they haven’t abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a drink and cig and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective portion of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
